Hearing Protection

Over 30 million people in the United States have noise-induced hearing loss. This is one type of hearing loss that is avoidable. Exposure to noise, even for a short time, can create permanent hearing loss. Whether you are exposed to noise at work or through leisure activities, Siouxland Hearing Healthcare can fit you with hearing protection that’s comfortable to wear and provides superior protection.

Custom earmolds

Custom earmolds are custom fit devices made from a mold of your ear. They fit the unique contours of your ear, so they fit comfortably and securely for hours of wear.

They may be made of solid or spongy material and can be full shell (filling the entire ear bowl) or half shell (filling the lower ear bowl). The audiologist at Siouxland Hearing Healthcare will recommend hearing protection based on your individual needs.

Earmolds for hunting can include an attenuator that instantaneously closes when damaging noise levels are reached but allows for normal hearing at all other times. Other earmolds for gun enthusiasts may be digital models that amplify background noise (such as game) while suppressing the noise of gunfire. There are even models designed for the rapid fire of skeet and sporting clays.

Earmolds for swimmers and surfers keep cold air and water out of the ear canal while allowing sound for conversation in.

Earmolds for use with earbuds and other personal listening devices block background noise so you listen to audio devices at a lower, safer decibel level.

Custom earplugs

Custom earplugs are worn in the canal only. Like custom earmolds, this hearing protection is made from a mold of your ear canal. They fit comfortably and securely and provide a greater level of protection than most off-the-shelf devices.

Some earplugs are made from solid material and others are made from soft, spongy material. Custom ear plugs aren’t worn solely for noise protection. Swimmers wear them to keep water out and shift-workers and frequent travelers wear them to create a quiet environment for sleeping.

Earplugs for music are perfect for concert goers and people who work in bars, cafes, or other places where loud music is played. They don’t block noise but reduce the decibel level. You still hear clearly, but the sound is not muffled, it’s clear.

Earplugs for motorsports prevent the sounds of engines and protect against wind buffeting. Because they fit in the ear canal, they can be worn comfortably under a helmet.

Earplugs for swimming keep water out to reduce the chances of swimmer’s ear.

Earplugs for sleeping allow you to create a quiet space any time or place you need to sleep.

Musicians earplugs and in-ear monitors

Musicians have very special hearing protection needs. The decibel levels from instruments can be damaging, even without amplification. Every practice and performance puts hearing at risk of loss. However, in order to make music, you must hear sounds without distortion.

Musicians earplugs reduce damaging levels of noise without distorting sound in the process. You pick the level that’s right for you. From 5-25 dBs reduction, you’ll still hear your music, but at a lower and safer level.

In-ear monitors allow you to hear without amplification and can replace on-stage monitors. This is the solution preferred by amateur and professional musicians.
